EDB:What does program manager mean? can u elaborate on job profile? Ruchit Garg. Program Management at Microsoft is one of the most talked about roles in the software industry, because of its nature. Way back during development of Excel sheets for MAC, Microsoft figured out that they need smart guys who can partner with development team throughout the product cycle and be advocate for customers and end-users. I see this role as a glue between various functions at Microsoft which get together and help deliver a feature or a product. Specific day to day functions of a Program Manager’s can be different from team to team and its more like ‘go figure out’ but genesis is same, help team drive to deliver a fantastic product. EDB: Prior to shifting to Seattle, what was development happened at Microsoft development center, Gachibowli, Hyderabad? and what are the products rolled out? Ruchit Garg. At Indian Development Center, Microsoft , Hyderabad I was working with the team responsible for MSN Games (http://games.msn.com ) which is a platform for internet based casual web games. We worked closely with our counterpart team in Redmond, WA do deliver new experiences for our users. We also had a smaller team at IDC, who delivered casual games for web as well as console (xbox).

EDB: Can you explain more on the process at MS for Game space that you follow

Ruchit Garg. I know more about the platforms where we host games than actual game development. We have to create and maintain a service which is highly scalable to serve millions of customers across the globe. Because of wide spectrum of userbase, there is a lot of thinking which goes into development as well as deployment. There are various test environments where products goes and gets validated before it actually get served to the end user.
